SHIP OWNER

  1. Having an adequate crew:

Although the shipowner is not necessarily the captain of the vessel, he is responsible for finding qualified professionals for the different positions on the ship.
The crew must be properly trained to perform their duties in the various activities on board.

Contacting the different clients when necessary:

The shipowner is the person ultimately responsible for managing clients.
He may perform commercial tasks and meet with clients to negotiate contract conditions and rates applicable to the transport of goods.

COMMERCIAL OPERATORS

Carrier (Actual Carrier): The maritime carrier is the main actor in the transportation process. This individual or entity enters into the transportation contract with the user of the goods. If the carrier is the owner of the vessel (shipowner, charterer or operator), it is considered a contractual carrier

Maritime Agencies: Also known as “Ships Agent”, these agencies represent different interested parties, such as the captain, owners, shipowners, charterers and ship operators. They carry out commercial management in each port, such as procedures for the movement of cargo, issuance of bills of lading and other related services

User or Shipper: The shipper (exporter or importer) is responsible for the shipment of the goods and signs the maritime transport contract with the carrier. It is he who trusts that the cargo will arrive at its destination safely and efficiently

Stowage and Unload Companies: These authorized companies carry out port operations, such as loading and unloading of ships, transshipment and cargo handling at the dock. They can be operated by general agents or workers’ cooperatives.

DISPONENT OWNER

SHIP OWNERS WITH SHIPS.

Time Charter: In this case, the ship is chartered by the ship’s owner for a specific period. The ship’s owner takes care of the navigation of the ship, while the original owner is not involved in the business side of the operation. The ship’s owner may sub-lease the ship to a carrier interested in carrying cargo under its own bills of lading2.

Voyage Charter: In this scenario, the ship’s owner charters the ship for a specific voyage. Again, the ship’s owner takes care of the navigation, while the original owner is not involved in the business side. The ship’s owner may also sub-lease the ship to a carrier interested in carrying cargo under its own bills of lading2.
